The original painting was made with love for MagicTattoo’s 30th anniversary group Art Show. Designed to be tattooed as a backpiece, I choose the toucan for its regal appearance as well as the symbology it carries; it is intended to both beautify and embolden its wearer 🖤🔥
Because of its striking, loud call and prominent beak, the toucan represents the power of speech, clear communication, self expression, joy, and the importance of sharing your truth with confidence, which deeply resonates in the current climate ✨.
In Central and South American indigenous traditions, the toucan holds deep spiritual value. Revered a sacred messenger between the human and spiritual realm, its bright appearance is viewed as a physical manifestation of light and divine energy by certain tribes 🌈. Encountering a toucan is believed to bring good fortune. It often shows up when you need to either speak up, celebrate yourself and/or let loose!
In turn, the hibiscus flower universally symbolizes delicate beauty and feminine power. Because individual blossoms typically bloom and wither within a single day, the flower serves as a prominent natural reminder of life's transience and the importance of seizing the day.
